The Turragraph Term 2 Week 6 - 6 June 2025
Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,
A warm welcome to our first edition of the winter season!
We’re already halfway through Term 2 and heading into Week 7. All teachers are busy finalising their observations, student work samples, and assessments to prepare the mid-year reports.
A significant amount of time and effort goes into analysing and discussing each student’s progress, and you’ll soon see the results of this hard work reflected in the reports.
Reporting plays a crucial role in helping teachers communicate feedback about student progress to parents, carers and students. It is an essential component of the teaching and learning cycle. Through this process, your child's teacher reflects on individual achievements and identifies the next steps for learning. These reports also offer valuable insights into your child's interactions and experiences at school, giving you a clearer picture of their journey.

Shining the Spotlight on Class Assemblies
Class assemblies are always a standout event on our school calendar. The success of these assemblies comes from the dedication, collaboration and leadership that goes into them, resulting in performances that are truly appreciated by our audience of students, staff and proud parents and carers.
A big congratulations to 6B, 5D, and 4/5E for leading our assemblies so far this year and showcasing their impressive public speaking and drama skills. We warmly invite all parents and carers to join us in supporting these special opportunities. We’re excited to see what 3/4F has in store for their assembly next Monday at 2:15pm in the hall.
Creativity Takes Flight in KA
KA has been exploring the world of nouns and adjectives in a fun and engaging way with Mrs Atterton.
After reading the delightful book Feathers for Phoebe by Rod Clement, each student created their own unique bird. They then wrote sentences using adjectives to bring their creations to life.
It’s wonderful to see their imaginations soar!

Cross Country Success
Congratulations to all the students who attended the Hornsby Zone Cross Country Carnival last week with the support of Miss Beavis and Miss Fagan.
This is an achievement to be proud of and a reflection of your hard work and talent in sports, as well as your positive behaviour and support for one another. Participating in these events not only gives you the chance to showcase your skills but also provides opportunities to learn, grow and expand friendships.
Each of you represented TNPS with pride. Though our school may be small in number, we are certainly mighty in talent, and along with your parents/carers and teachers, we are all excited to see you shine in competition.
As the competition continues, we wish the best of luck to Beatrice, Georgia, Alice, Chella and Miller as they move on to the Sydney North Cross Country. Enjoy every moment of this wonderful experience!

PYJAMA DAY is this Wednesday, 11 June.
Please wear your pyjamas or an oodie to school on Wednesday - students, teachers and parents/carers too, if you'd like.
Don't forget your hat and enclosed shoes suitable for the playground.
We invite everyone to join us in supporting PYJAMA DAY by bringing along a gold coin donation!
Every contribution makes a difference and will help us achieve our goal of installing a water bottle refilling station in the playground.
Enjoy a comfy, cosy day in your pyjamas or oodie while contributing to this important project!
Thank you for your support.

Athletics Carnivals Ahead
Just a friendly reminder that our annual Athletics Carnivals are just two days away - taking place this Thursday, 12 June at Bannockburn Oval. All students require parent/carer consent to attend.
It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their athletic skills, cheer for their classmates and enjoy a day of friendly competition. We encourage everyone to come out and support our athletes as they give their best in various events. If you are unable to join us this time, photos will be shared in the next Turragraph.
l'm looking forward to another memorable TNPS event!

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
Each year, schools across Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). This process involves schools collecting existing information about the support provided to students with disabilities, in accordance with the legislative requirements outlined in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, as per the NCCD guidelines (2019).
The NCCD helps state and federal governments gather essential data to plan more effectively for the support of students with disabilities. Importantly, the NCCD does not directly impact your child, and they will not participate in any testing process. Data submitted to the Australian Government will not identify individual students. All information is safeguarded by privacy laws that govern the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information.

Kindergarten Artists
Our Kindergarten students have been learning about portraiture by painting portraits of their precious mums or other significant females in their lives.
They have been experimenting with paint and colour mixing throughout this creative process.
Enjoy these lovely photos of their work in progress!

Attendance Matters
An important reminder:
If your child is absent it is important to let the school know on the day, including the explanation.
If your child is not at school on a given day, and we have not received an explanation, we will send you a text message. We appreciate your prompt response so we can update our records and ensure your child's teacher is aware.
The following options are available when notifying the school of your child’s absence:
- Reply directly to the SMS / text notification which you will receive at 11:00am on the day of your child’s absence.
- Complete the online Absentee Form via the SZapp in advance or on the day of absence.
- Send an email to the school turramurrn-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au
- Phone the school office on 02 9144 4107
We don't want to make additional work for you. So, replying to the SMS the school sends will record an official absence explanation. The SMS response is sufficient and no further notification is required.

Band Camp

Band Camp Excitement is Building! 🎶
Our young musicians are gearing up for Band Camp 2025, and we couldn’t be more excited! Over two big days, (14th and 15th June) students from our Junior, Performance and Extension Bands will be rehearsing, learning from expert tutors and making amazing musical memories.
We’d love to invite all families and community members to our Band Camp Concert on Sunday 15 June at 2:00pm in the school hall. Come and hear our three magnificent bands showcase the culmination of their hard work over the weekend.
The concert is free and there will also be a raffle with great prizes to support the Band program.
Band Camp 2025 Program Cover Design Entries
This week’s image features the incredible artwork submitted by our band students for the official Band Camp Concert Program. Their designs were so clever, colourful and creative, we just had to share them with the whole school community! The winning design will be printed and handed out at the concert.
We hope to see you there!

Reading Matters

Reading every day matters!
The exposure to a variety of reading materials, even for just 10 minutes a day, can greatly enrich a child's vocabulary and overall language skills. This habit not only enhances their reading comprehension and verbal fluency but also fosters a love for reading that can benefit them throughout their lives.
Encouraging children to engage with different types of texts, from comic books to recipes, helps them to connect with reading in a way that feels enjoyable and relevant. This diverse exposure is crucial because it builds a strong foundation for their future academic success.
Promoting nightly reading routines can also create bonding moments between parents and children, making reading a shared experience that is both educational and enjoyable.
Tips to Encourage Nightly Reading:
- Create a Reading Routine: Set a specific time each night for reading together. Consistency helps make it a habit.
- Choose a Variety of Materials: Encourage your child to pick books, magazines, or any reading materials that interest them. Variety keeps them engaged.
- Interactive Reading: Ask questions about the story, encourage predictions, and discuss the characters. This promotes comprehension and critical thinking.
- Make it Cosy: Create a comfortable reading environment with good lighting, pillows, and quiet space to make reading time enjoyable.
- Model Reading: Let your child see you read regularly. This shows them that reading is a valued activity.
